It helps to relieve the intraocular pressure. Omega-3 fatty acid, including EPA and DHA, which is present in fatty fish and ALA, which is present in nuts and seeds, has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. They fight infection, which studies believe plays a role in AMD.  Omega 3 fatty acids are present in fish oil due to which it has high anti-inflammatory properties; it helps lower the bad cholesterol level, which is linked with AMD.

A study showed that senior men with high levels of fish consumption were 45% less likely to develop macular degeneration than those who did not consume fish or had little.

Another study conducted at the University of Sydney demonstrated similar results when they evaluated 2,900 people age 49 and above. The individuals who ate fish at least two times a week had 40% fewer chances of developing early-stage AMD as compared to the people who reported low consumption of fish or didn’t consume fish at all.
