What is melasma?

Which Melasma Treatments Can Be Done At A Doctor’s Office?

The doctors perform several melasma treatments in their offices. There are many strengths and types of chemical peels available in the market for treating different skin tones and types. It is important to understand that the physician must approve the type of chemical peel after assessing the skin condition. For treating melasma, a chemical peel of 30%-70% glycolic acid is very effective and mostly available in the market.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is one of the treatments that the doctors do at his or her office to treat melasma. In the procedure of microdermabrasion, the doctor uses a vacuum pump for suction of the affected skin along with the use of an abrasive compound like fine diamond pieces. The skin specialist also uses the crystals of aluminium oxide as an abrasive compound. The main purpose of microdermabrasion is to exfoliate the outermost layers of the skin. The skin specialist adjusts the pressure of the vacuum pump depending on the sensitivity and the type of skin the patient has. The sessions of microdermabrasion typically last for a few minutes to an hour. Usually, it takes zero time to recover from the microdermabrasion session.

The skin improves subsequently after the microdermabrasion session, and the dark patches fade away with time. Although no dramatic results are appearing after microdermabrasion, the skin gradually improves with the progressing time. Moreover, multiple treatments are efficient for treating melasma in many patients. Hence there are no guarantees for the complete disappearance of the melasma spots on the skin surface, but microdermabrasion is one of the best treatments for curing melasma. It is important to note that these treatments are not necessary, and people tend to get these treatments to please themselves.
