What is melasma?

Hormonal Changes

The development and progression of melasma associates with increased levels of estrogen hormone in the human body, which results in more melanin production. As estrogen hormone is present in more significant quantities in females in comparison with males, that is why most of the women population suffer from melasma. The chances of developing melasma are also widespread in men if there is the presence of a strong family history of melasma in them. The people who are suffering from thyroid problems are also prone to melasma because the hormonal balance faces disturbances due to thyroid issues.
