Alemtuzumab
This drug comes under the name of Campath and lemtrada. This infusion medication helps in the reduction of relapses in the case of multiple sclerosis by targeting the protein on the surface of immune cells and diminishing white blood cells. The depletion of white blood cells can help to limit the potential nerve damage due to the attack of white blood cells. On the other hand, it also doubles the risk of autoimmune disorders such as the high risk of autoimmune thyroid disease and immune-mediated kidney diseases. The chances of infections are also higher due to the reduction of white blood cells. The treatment with this drug involves the administration of drugs for five consecutive days. Infusion reactions are a possibility in this medication.
