Blood in the urine
Diagnosing hemolytic uremic syndrome can be difficult, and the best way to do so is to have the urine tested for blood. Many times doctors are able to tell that a patient has hemolytic uremic syndrome simply by seeing blood cells in the urine. Hematuria (blood in the urine) is the earliest symptom of HUS. If you have hematuria, it’s important to see your doctor right away. The earlier you get treatment, the easier it is to manage the symptoms of HUS.
