A Comprehensive Guide To Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic Dermatitis In Children

Atopic dermatitis involves the formation of red rashes, crusted patches, and inflamed skin that itches. The location of skin lesions in a child depends upon his age.

Infants- In infants, skin lesions can usually be seen on the face, scalp, feet, and body folds. The fluid can come out form the areas of rash.

Old infants- in older infants, the lesions can be seen on the wrist, ankles, back of the neck, and elbows. School-going children scratch their skin more often. Therefore the skin of older children is more likely to be lichenified. Children with atopic dermatitis have a low threshold for itching, which makes itching more tempting for them. Vicious itching and scratching affect their skin, and the rash starts to spread. Disruption of normal sleep patterns has also been seen in children.
