Chemotherapy

A doctor will check you to see if the cancer is hormone sensitive before prescribing chemotherapy.

It is known as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), if the test results indicate that the cancer is not responsive to estrogen and progesterone or to another protein called the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)

Hormone therapy is ineffective against this type of cancer and typically chemotherapy is required for people who have TNBC.

In some cases, people who do have breast cancer PR+ or ER+ may still need chemotherapy. A doctor may need to do a tumor test to help decide whether chemotherapy is necessary. Sometimes, doctors will recommend using Herceptin, which is a targeted therapy, alongside chemotherapy for people who have HER2 + breast cancer.
