Almost five to forty percent of the patients having a history of heart surgery are at greater risk of developing atrial fibrillation, especially the patients after heart surgeries like coronary artery bypass are at a greater risk. Graphed surgery (CABG) and valvular surgery are at higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation, which is medically known as postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF). After the open-heart surgery, the development of atrial fibrillation is one of the serious complications which needs intensive care because it may result in cardiac failure and even death of the patient.
