Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease
Alzheimer’s disease

Apart from these two conditions having an association with old age, there are many other parallels. Alzheimer’s disease can cause epilepsy by structural changes in the brain, which are consistent with the aging process. Alzheimer’s is also related to deposition of chemicals in the tissue. This leads to the association with epilepsy being a chemical change in nature. Epilepsy is a late complication of Alzheimer’s, appearing after many years into the disease. The incidence of epilepsy is about 10-22% in Alzheimer’s patients. The deficit in cognitive function is shared outcome in both these diseases. This outcome of one disease can serve as a trigger for the other.
