Surgery

Surgery

In some cases of severe MD, Surgery becomes necessary to treat the physical problem. In the case of Duchenne MD, the person can develop scoliosis, which is sideways curvature of the spine. Surgery can cause accurate scoliosis and prevent it from getting worse.

Surgery is performed when the condition becomes severe, or symptoms get worse. Weak shoulder muscles can be improved surgically by fixing shoulder blades to the back of the ribs. Droopy eyelids can be lifted surgically to improve the vision. In the same way, tight joints can also be loosened by lengthening and releasing them through surgery.
