Heart problems

Muscular dystrophy is linked with a heart condition call cardiomyopathy. Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscles. As heart muscles are responsible for pumping blood to the whole body; therefore disorder in these muscles makes it harder for the heart to pump blood into the rest of the body. The disease weakens the muscles of the heart and prevent it from working properly.

It applies the pressure on the heart and can cause heart failure. Cardiomyopathy begins in adolescence, and the size of the heart can enlarge with time. The heart problems also develop a condition called dilated cardiomyopathy. This heart problem can be life-threatening in most cases.
