Pulmonary embolism can often cause blood clots to form in one or more areas of the legs and in severe cases blood clots start to appear in arms as well. These blood clots cause swelling and sensation of warmth on touch in areas of legs. Patients of pulmonary embolism can experience burning and cramping pain in their legs and arms due to the formation of blood clots. The skin feels sore and warm on touch and soreness usually begins in the calf and feels like a muscle cramp. A warm sensation in the affected leg might follow the course of the vein in patients of pulmonary embolism.
