Spinal surgery

Spinal surgery

Spinal surgery is another approach to treat spinal deformities and requires the spine to be fused solid. In this procedure, two or more vertebrae are combined using bone grafts. The process of the spinal procedure takes from 3 months to years for completion.

Bone grafts can come from a source like a pelvis, ribs, or spine. Protein bone grafts substitutes can also be used in a few cases. However, smoking interferes with fusion; therefore, the patient must stop smoking months before the surgery.
