In 1970, Pauling was suggesting the use of vitamin C for the treatment of common cold. There are a number of reports that show the use of prophylactic form of vitamin C reducing the cold duration in children and adults. The usage of vitamin C might reduce the common cold duration mainly due to its anti-histamine effect resulting through high dosage of vitamin C. Although the results are not consistent and research is still in progress to support the claim of vitamin C treating the common cold.
