Chloride sweat test

Chloride sweat test

This test helps to measure the amount of chlorine present in the body’s sweat. As one of the symptoms of cystic fibrosis is the presence of more salt in the body and on the skin; therefore, the level of sweat is higher in the people with this disease. In the test, a comically called pilocarpine is spread over the patient’s skin, then a small amount of electric stimulation is applied to encourage sweat glands to produce sweat. After sweat production, it is then collected in a plastic coil or piece of filter paper. There is no age limitation for this test. Anyone can have the test. It does not require the use of a needle and is not painful.
