Diabetes

People with cystic fibrosis also suffer from diabetes. The reason is that pancreas is responsible for producing insulin, which the body needs to utilize the glucose of the body. The thick sticky mucus causes scarring of the pancreas, which prevents the pancreas from producing a normal amount of insulin and increases the risk of diabetes. These people can become insulin.

Deficient, their pancreas still makes insulin but in very low quantity, which isn’t enough to maintain the body’s normal functioning.

The diabetes cases among these patients are high, and 20% of teenage and 40 to 50% of an adult also suffer from diabetes.
