Persistent coughing

Persistent coughing

Another ubiquitous sign of this disease is persistent coughing. In healthy lungs, a thin layer of mucus is present that is responsible for helping the body in the removal of all the dirt and bacteria. At the same time, the person with cystic fibrosis has a very thick layer of mucus that causes clogging of the lungs and wheezing. Therefore the person suffers from coughing. Wheezing, coughing, and shortening of breath can also be related to lung infection. These infections can get so severe that the patient can get special weeks in the hospital several times a year.
