Thiocyanate system
The immune system plays a very important role in protecting the lungs from getting chronically infected. In many diseases, including cystic fibrosis, the body’s immune system tries to protect the lungs from multiple infections. In the latest research, labs have found that the thiocyanate system is effective. Further work is being done to create the analog of this thiocyanate molecule that can help prevent chronic infection and inflammation associated with a short life span.
