Stomach cancer is very difficult to detect in the early stages. However, people with a higher risk of stomach cancer should visit their doctor every now and then. Long term stomach discomfort can be an indication for stomach cancer and ulcers. The doctor physically palpates the stomach, and inquires about problems and painful areas. If the doctor notices any unusual thing, he will then perform tests and procedures to further inspect stomach conditions. He might also refer you to a gastrointestinal specialist for further and proper inspection.
