Stage Of Stomach Cancer
Morbidity and mortality rates are by far most accurately measured on the basis of the stage of cancer.
- Localized:
If the cancer is diagnosed at the very start the chances of survival are relatively high because its spread can be controlled easily. Nearly 70 % of people can spend next 5 years after diagnosis. Overall survival rates are also high.
- Regional:
If the cancer has invaded most part of the stomach and the surrounding lymph nodes but still haven’t reached other organs the survival rate is less as compared to people with metastatic cancer. Treatments targeting the localized tumor can be helpful in reducing mortality. Only 32 % of people survive for the next 5 years of the regional staged cancer.
- Metastatic stomach cancer:
This type cancer is referred to as the metastatic stage. In this stage the cancer is not confined to the stomach but, has spread to the other far away parts of the body. The mortality rate increases due to the associated abnormality in other systems of the body. The survival rate of this stage cancer is only 6 %.
