Cardiac ailments and stroke go hand in hand. About 13% of elderly patients report a heart problem after stroke and vice versa. Myocardial infarction, and heart conduction defects; primarily atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia are the predisposing factors for a stroke. Cardiac arrhythmia can contribute to a turbulent blood flow through the vessels which can give rise to clot formation. Clots can embolize to the brain and cause a stroke.
