Complement Mediated TMA

This is the most recently recognized cause of thrombocytopenia and is associated with inherited gene mutation, which means that it causes an abnormality of the immune system. The complement protein that helps remove damaged cells and the destruction of foreign cells act as scavengers. Due to an inherited gene mutation, the complement system becomes overactive, and this can limit the normal regulation and control, which can damage the cells of the body. This happens in the case of complement-mediated TMA. The kidney is most vulnerable to this condition, and it can cause serious problems to the kidney, including kidney injury and failure.
