  • Namenda: Medication under the brand name of Namenda is best for the patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease. The main effect of these drugs is to minimize the intensity of symptoms and allow the patient to maintain a slightly normal daily routine in their lives. Namenda might aid a person in the progressive stages of the disease by maintaining their ability to use bathroom on their own for several more months. Namenda believes to work by maintaining an important chemical in brain, i.e., glutamate. Glutamate is a chemical in the brain important for memory and signaling between the neurons, but the excess production of glutamate results in the death of brain cells.
  • N-methyl D-aspartate (NDMA) antagonist: The medication helps to stop the degenerative loss of cognitive function by ceasing the buildup of tau and plaque proteins. Some other drugs for treating moderate to severe Alzheimer’s with the approval from FDA include Namzaric, Aricept, and Exelon patch. The NMDA antagonists work in a different way as compared to the function of cholinesterase inhibitors.
  • Namzaric (donepezil and memantine): Namzaric is a combination of Cholinesterase inhibitor and NDMA antagonist aid in treating the symptoms of moderate Alzheimer’s by blocking the toxic effects of excess production of glutamate. Namzaric prevents the breakdown of additional acetylcholine in the brain cells. However, there are some side effects of this medication include vomiting, nausea, dizziness, anorexia, headache, and diarrhea.
