HDL Or Good Cholesterol

HDL or high-density lipoprotein is responsible for the transport of cholesterol from the body tissues towards the liver for the metabolism of this cholesterol, and that’s why HDL is known as good cholesterol for the body. The higher level of HDL in the body is a good indication for the health.  According to many experts, the higher amount of HDL performs a scavenging activity by transporting the LDL or bad cholesterol from the tissues and towards the liver for the metabolic breakdown of this cholesterol. But this scavenging activity only lowers the one-third amount of LDL from the body, and this shows the limitation of HDL to eliminate all the LDL from the body.

Moreover, the lower levels of HDL in the blood also increase the chances of getting heart diseases and other problems related to high cholesterol. The sufficient amount of HDL cholesterol levels in the blood acts as a protective agent against the strokes and heart attacks, thus decreasing the probability of getting these diseases.
