What is the colon cancer survival rate with stages?
The survival rate statistics are useful for determining how many people survive colon cancer, but they are not constant. No two people have the same type of colon cancer and they might have different treatments. The survival rate from colon cancer varies a lot depending on different factors. The cancer is curable if diagnosed early. This survival statistic can give an idea to the cancer patient about how many people survive their stage of cancer.
5-year survival rate:
By the term 5-year survival rate, we mean the amount of people who survive the next 5 years after being diagnosed with cancer.
Survival rate with respect to stages:
- Localized:
If the cancer lies within the lining of the tissue and organ and hasn’t reached lymph nodes it is called localized cancer. This is one of the earliest stages of cancer. The lesser the cells mutated the higher, chances are available for recovery. If the cancer is diagnosed during these early stages, then, according to statistics the survival rate is 91%.
- Regional:
This is a later stage of cancer. In this stage the cells of nearly the entire organ have turned cancerous and infected nearby regional lymph nodes. The survival rate of this stage of cancer is 72%.
- Distant:
This stage of cancer is among the last stages hence the mortality chances are also significant. In this stage the cancer has invaded other organs and lymph nodes. The survival rate of this type of cancer is 14%.
