Common warts

Common warts can appear in any non-genital region of the body. It is seen mostly in children and young adults. Most commonly involved sites are fingers, knees, elbows etc. These also happen to be common sites for cut and scrapes. The virus gets a favorable ground to flourish in the form of an open wound, and infects through the discontinuous skin, which pose a low degree of defense. In appearance common warts are:

  • Rough in the periphery, and softer in the center of the lesion.
  • May have the ‘seeds’, which are the black dots in the wart.
  • Appear raised from the underlying skin.
  • May be round to oval I shape.
  • Vary in color from pale, pinkish, or darker than the surrounding skin.

Though it may impact the cosmetic appearance, common warts too, are a minor medical concern and go away on their own after a brief period.
