All Thing You Want To Know About Low Back Pain

Bony Encroachment

Any joint condition that results in growth or movement of the vertebrae of the spine can limit the space for the adjacent vertebrae and nerves. This causes bony encroachment. The most common causes of this condition include;

  • Spondylolisthesis (slippage of one vertebral bone relative to another)
  • Foraminal narrowing (narrowing of the opening through which the spinal nerves exit from the spinal column)
  • Spinal stenosis (compression of the nerve roots by soft tissue outgrowth or bony spurs)

Compression of the spinal nerves in these conditions can lead to low back pain that can radiate down the buttocks and lower extremities. Its pain usually worsens with walking and is relieved by resting.
