Tests For Pregnant Women

If the result shows, you are carrying a sickle cell gene, then a test is also offered to the baby’s father because the results of both parents’ tests help decide whether the baby could be affected by sickle cell diseases or not.

If there is any chance that the baby could inherit sick cell diseases, the parents choose to counsel to discuss whether they would like to have a further test for the unborn baby, generally named as a prenatal test.

However, a prenatal test finds out whether the baby has sickle cell diseases. If the test comes positive, the parent will be offered counseling to discuss how this could affect their baby if they want to continue with the pregnancy.
