A number of bacterial and viral agents can cause disease in the external or the middle ear. Most common presentation of which are swellings and fluid accumulation in the middle ear. If this infection is severe enough to trigger the eardrum, tinnitus is manifested. Most commonly, with the resolution of the ear infection, tinnitus also is resolved.
